Surprise!

I had quite a shock when I looked at the rota on monday morning. I was down to work till midnight on tuesday.  I was on a course monday and tuesday from 9-5, so it meant it’d be quite a long day.  I automatically presumed that it’d have lost a day on call in the future, but oh no, it was an extra bonus on call shift.

Anyway, the shift was fine and the plus side is I get today off. I’m sure I’ll get more revision done today than I would have done last night, althought I am quite tired.

I’ve ordered my ipod.  Want it now! But amazon hasn’t even posted it yet.

I need my passport for my exam next week.  Mum’s posted it but its not reached me yet. Not quite time for a panic yet, but it will be soon!

I don’t like being a recluse. I want to see my friends again.

Plodding away

I couldn’t sleep last night. I kept waking up with panics about things I don’t know.

Have done the revision course and wasn’t the worst there but wasn’t getting enough to pass. Sigh. That’s all I want at the moment is to pass this damn exam.

Set myself a little test in choir, about pharmacology, so ended up writing a table of drugs and effects in the back of my copy of Mozart Mass in C minor. I think I’m getting a bit obsessed.

12 days. (four at home, two on a course, three night shifts, one day in ICU and one day giving anaesthetics, and one day sleeping post night shifts) Sigh.

What else?

Andrew and friends got dressed up as naughty schoolgirls for a Children in Need pubcrawl, organised by Joe. And much fun was had by all and lots raised for charity.  I didn’t dress up but I did see them for a bit and they all looked the part, and loved it too!  I went to a black tie do with Andrew organised by the Rotaract lot and it was a good night, made even better by winning £25 on a guess the thing competition.

Its cold and dark and time to hibernate.

Can I take the exam tomorrow please…

I know I’m not ready for it but I am totally fed up.  I need to do more work, or I won’t pass, but it sucks.  I have so many random facts in my head I think it may pop.

What has changed over the past few days?  hmmm. I was asked to work 12-12 on christmas day and boxing day instead of the night shifts I’d volunteered for and I refused.  I had some vocal coaching at choir and the teacher was pleased with my singing and said I had excellent techinque. I’ve not seen Andrew properly since last weekend and I’m missing him, although he probably doesn’t want to be around grumpyexamgirl ™.

The present fairy brought me a present round but I was out so she left a note. Hurrah!

Post it notes

  • Post it notes are taking over my life
  • I like Moby. His new album is very good
  • Revising at home is certainly better than work
  • I still think I want an Ipod, but maybe is better to get something else
  • Diet coke is still my favoutire drink
  • Playing on the internet is better than revising, but it doesn’t pass exams.
  • I feel I am very boring at the moment

Its not over till the Slug boy sings.

Friday night we went for a yummy curry. We being Charlotte, Dan and LittleCharlotteSister, Adam, Miranda, Steve, Andrew and myself. It was a quiet affair with good chat and nice food. Most people went home early so Adam, Andrew and I popped to check Kro Bar was still the same, and see what it was like without the Maths Tower.

Saturday morning came far too fast and it was time for Adam to retreat back to Scotland. After a quick wander round the new Arndale (and very nice it is too we think!). We bought some yummy food from the farmers market and Andrew got quite excited in the new Apple shop.

Last night we went to the opera. It was a concert performance of one act from Wagner’s Ring cycle, and very good it was too. The whole ring cycle is 15 hours long, designed to be performed onver 4 consecutive nights and took over 30 years to write (although he did take a break of 12 years to write other stuff), so we only saw 10% of the total piece. Anyway, it was amazing. And quite amusing too. Siegfried, one of the main characters (who has won many wars and fought dragons and all sorts) finds a woman dressed as a male soldier in a cave and doesn’t know what to do, so calls for his Mother! But he wakes the woman as his Mother doesn’t come and they he gets scared so stands still in awe!  I thought it was interesting to perform Wagner on 11th November… A previous concert we took part in happened to coincide with Haulocaust memorial day and the programme had to be changed as it wasn’t demmed appropriate to perform Wagner on that day as his links with Hitler and the Nazis. But maybe I’m making too much of it.  As the concert was only 90 mintues long Mark Elder (the fantastic conductor of the Halle) spoke for 20 minutes at the start, which was very interesting as I previously knew nothing about the Ring Cycle.  I want to hear the rest now! But maybe in bitesized chunks and not all in one go…

After the Opera we headed to Charlotte and Dan flat as they were having a party. It was ace and I ended up a bit drunk (and for some reason thought it’d be a great idea to sleep on the floor when I went to bed!?!).

Today I’ve been revising. Not as much as perhaps as I could have, but I’m getting there I think. To be honest I’m really glad I’m going to work tomorrow as I’m fed up of revising and want to do something else! I probably won’t be saying this at this time tomorrow when I’m tired and fed up though!

Beerfest!

So, where was I?  Somewhere near Wednesday I think.

Adam’s visiting. Its great to see him. And his visit coincided with a trip to BeerFest!  Wednesday night was filled with the usual drinking beer for charity and much silliness.  Turnout was excellent, and many LizIsDrunk points were handed out (and for once LizWasVeryDrunk!). The glass this year is a bit diasppointing though, its got a sponsor on it! Pah I say, PAh! But at least this year there was a lot of beer and it hadn’t gone off.  MMMmmmm.

Yesterday I was very broken for most of the day. I managed very very little revision. So today I am determined to do better. But must blog first!! I attended my first choir committee meeting. It’ll be interesting. There is are a lot of politics and decisions to be made, and I’m not sure I like it. Plus from the little I’ve seen some things are rushed into headfirst without consultation of what is already out there and then people get abused.  But I’ll give it a go, and if its too much then I’ll resign.  And if I’ve tried to do it then at least I can hold my head up high knowing I’ve tried.

The last night I headed down to CassHouse. Adam was already there and when I arrived jenga was in progress. But they were lovely and kind and had saved  me some dinner.  Mmmm. Veggie haggis,  mash, carrot and swede and gravy.  Hurrah!  Chatted for a while and then came home for sleep. And now its now.

I’m back

Well I’m back in reality.

Friday night was wonderful.  We (me, Andrew, Mum, Gordon and Kristie) met for dinner in a posh resturant.  Food was gorgeous, and wine was free flowing.  It was great to see my family as I don’t see them that often. When we got home Mum gave me a present…..

FIREWORKS!!!!!!

We set them off immeadeatly.  I lit a few then we all joined in.  Mum has a slate monolith in her garden (yes, she’s had her garden ‘landscaped’… it looks like Ground Force has visited, only it took months not days and cost thousands,) anyway, the monolith was a very good base to release fireworks from.  They were ace! I love fireworks. Wheeeeeeee.

Saturday morning we drove to Borth. Via the supermarket in Newtown and over the hills (the ‘pretty way’ as I like to call it). We then went to the Centre for Alternative Technology. I’d not been for a few years and it was quite interesting.  I bought some ‘eco balls’ (things you put in the washing machine instead of soap) and we had a nice lunch.

We spent a couple of lovely days in Borth. I was revising a lot, and got a lot done. We went for walks and ate a lot too!  Sadly we had to come home sooner than I would have liked as Andrew’s laptop suffered the BlueScreenofDeath and wouldn’t do anything else.  Boo. I want to be back in Borth. Hopefully I will be soon. I love the seaside. I love watching the sea and walking along the beach. I wish Manchester had a beach, but if I recall correctly then someone else thought that too…

Today I’ve been revising. You may notice a theme here. I’m slowly getting there, but there’s still loads to do, and only 4 weeks until the exam. Eek!  And what am I doing tomorrow?… I’ll give you three guesses…

It arrived…

Gone to a better place

Well not quite yet. But soon.

A and I are going to Mum’s holiday home in Wales so I can revise looking at different walls.  I’m really looking forward to it as I love the seaside and it seems like ages since I was there (easter I think).

Revision still sucks. But it sucks a little less knowing there’s 10 days till I have to be back at work.  Hurrah for holidays.

The evils of ebay

I think I was one of the few people in the world who hadn’t bought anything off ebay until last week.  I don’t know why, but I didn’t really trust it and was quite suspicious.  Anyway with Andrew holding my hand (metaphorically, it would have been pretty tricky to use the computer if he was really doing it) I made my first purchace.

I was fairly confident at the time.  It was a buy it now thingy, so that’s what I did. And I paid through paypal (I am also suspicious of these people too.)  It seemed ok.

But my purchase has not arrived. Its 9 days now.

The seller is a powerseller and has good feedback. But I can’t get any sense out of him.  I’ve emailed to ask where it is and has he posted it and the reply I got made no sense.

I’m going to stick to things I trust in future.  Like real shops and real people.
