The Field.

"’The Field’ - which isn’t actually a field, but merely a place containing fewer rocks than any other place on the island".

I had a bizarre series of telephone conversations yesterday.

Andrew and I are going to a wedding in three weeks. Its about 25 miles from Mum’s house, so Mum was going to kindly drive us, but now she has to miss the wedding so I spent some of yesterday looking at different options.

Firstly I thought about a taxi. But as its quite a way it would cost 75 pounds return.

Then I phoned all the bed and breakfast places near the hotel (the hotel itself is quite small and very very pricey). The first one b and b was fully booked, but she suggested I phone Emily, who also had a b and b.

I managed to phone the whole village and it was all booked.

So I thought about camping.  I searched and found a phone number for the "Lake Vyrnwy Tourist Information office" so I called it .  Sadly the office closed many years ago, said the nice lady. But she wouldn’t let me go, and offered to help me.

I told her the situation and how I was looking for a campsite preferably walking distance from the hotel.  Firstly she listed all the b and b’s which I’d already phoned (just to check I hadn’t missed any) and then she said there wasn’t really a campsite, but there was "the field".

She went on at length about this field. It had no water or facilities, but the public toilets are sort of near by. She said we could probably pitch a tent there, and it was a bit of a walk from the hotel, but it’d be downhill for us and very very dark.

I asked who owned the field and was told to phone a number and I could speak to any of the family. It was just getting weirder and weirder…. However then she told me the name of the field owner, so I phoned him.

I felt like quite a fruitcake phoning up to ask if I could camp in "the field". I asked where it was and it was next to "the football pitch", just along from "the shop" and 400 yards from "the public toilets". The farmer man said if I asked in the shop they’d tell me where the field was. And it only costs £2 per night to camp there.

So while the rest of the wedding party are living it up in the posh hotel, Andrew and I will be braving it in "the field". I’m sure it’ll be a great adventure…..

Last night Cass and I went to see West Side Story. I’d never seen it live before, but was excited before. And it really lived up to expectation. The dancing was amazing. The band played well (except the timp played kept texting during his rests) and the singing was especially good. Particularly the rendition of "America".

Also yesterday I was commissioned to write an article for publication.  I’m not really sure that the people asking me to write have got the right person to do it, as I’m not an expert in the field, and my grasp of English is quite poor, to be honest (as regular readers of this intermittant blog probably know!). Wish me luck!

A and I have just installed our new telly. Its quite a monster, but has a good picture and good sound. And was free, as a friend is moving house and doesn’t need the TV at the moment, so we’re babysitting it.

I went to choir tonight, but left before the singing started as I was too tired to sing. This made me sad. But I need sleep. Night night.

MORE!!!!

Having not blogged for a few months I now feel the need to do two posts in one day! Has twitter stopped me blogging? I dunno really.  I don’t tweet that much. Work has no mobile phone reception (booo) so I update things a lot less than I used to.

Singing in Cornwall was amazing. It seems so long ago now.  We also went singing in Spain with choir. And I almost sang with Oasis. But that’s another story.  Going to Spain reminded me how fun being abroad is. I can’t wait till honeymoon.

I’ve bought a macbook. My old computer was full and slow and not very good. So as a post exam treat I got a macbook. I was in JohnLewis and they had one reduced a lot (which is a rare thing for a mac) so I bought it. Its lovely and shiny and fast and whizzy and beautiful. Hurrah!

That’s it for now….

This is for Rachel

I’ve not blogged for a while. I’ve thought about blogging, but for some reason I haven’t got round to it.  Why, I wonder. Well at first I had nothing to blog about, as my life was filled with revising.  It would have made pretty boring reading along the lines of "today I went to Sarah’s house for viva practice" or "today I went to Alice’s house for tea and viva practice".

Thankfully I no longer need to revise, as I passed the exams. I am the proud owner of a FRCA (that means I’m a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists). The exam wasn’t straight forward, as nothing is in my life, but I won’t go into that now.

I could be very boring and go on at lenght about the wedding plans. But I won’t.  All I’ll say is its 75 days till the big day!

I saw the lovely Rachel on Thursday. She said how I’d not blogged for ages and I should. So I’m following orders and am here, blogging. I hope its up to standard!

So, what else has happened?  Maybe its time for a list….

  • we finally had a housewarming/engagement party. It was a bbq. I decided to invite everyone I know, which was a litle stupid as there were 58 people at the party. It was great, but took a lot of organising and tidying up!
  • Jamie, the choir conductor is leaving us. This is very sad. We had our last concert with him conducting and it was amazing, but sad.
  • I got an award at the Choir end of year party. This made me smile.
  • I was lucky enough to see the final rehearsal for the Elbow/Halle gig.  For free! If I hadn’t had stupid work I’d have been singing in the choir(helping out the youth choir as they were short on numbers), but stupid work got in the way.
  • My wedding dress has arrived and I tried it on. Thankfully it fits and is beautiful
  • Harold rabbit and his wife Muriel are quite happy. But will never be as cute as Beryl and Reggie.
  • Andrew’s brother got married. It was a lovely day.
  • Fiona and Russell got married. I was a bridesmaid. It was lots of fun and I fitted into the tiny frock! Hurrah!
  • There’s two more weddings in the near future before our wedding.
  • My annual appraisal at work went really well. This is good. I would say more, but I’m not allowed to talk about work.
  • I am really greatful to all the lovely people who helped me with viva practice. I couldn’t have passed without them.
  • There are quite a lot of bullet points here. Some aren’t that pointy, waffly more like. But there’s still more to come.
  • Sorry there’s no order to this blog post.
  • I shall try harder in future. If I blog again.
  • I have sorted a lot of things out since exam passing. I like order and arrangement.

I think that’s enough on the bullet points. I shall try and blog more regularly. Having waffled here for a while I remember that I really quite like blogging. Its so self absorbed. Its so me. Its all about me!!!
